Hey folks! This month we’ve had together has been lovely, and I’ve really enjoyed sending WYD to you all each week. Thanks for letting me share some inspiring stories from the DoSomething community (and plenty of dogs too).
Our editor-in-chief Ben (who usually sends this newsletter) will be back next week from his sabbatical in Kenya, and I’m sure he’s eager to tell you all about it. For now, I’ll leave y’all with one last Jackie edition of WYD! 💜
Let’s Do This!
Tyler is Giving Back to His Community, One Pair of Jeans at a Time DoSomething member Tyler, 17, was surprised to find out that almost 40% of people experiencing homelessness in the US are under 18.
“Realizing that most of the people that are homeless are around my age, it inspired me, with the help of my sister, to give jeans back to the community.”
Tyler and his sister dropped off 25 pairs of jeans at their local Aéropostale, where store employees will make sure they get to folks who need them. And Tyler’s work doesn’t stop there!
“In addition, I volunteer at local non-profit organizations throughout my community including providing services for the elderly and feeding the homeless. By engaging in community services, I have a lasting, positive impact on my community.” DoSomething members are powering the largest youth-led denim drive ever. Join the 54,507 members who’ve already signed up to collect and donate jeans for local youth in shelters.
DoSomething member Ashlan, 18, was inspired by her dad (who is an Air Force veteran) to make cards of appreciation for military service members, veterans, and their families. Learn how to send your own card or letter today (this campaign closes Feb. 8!).
More Amazing Impact From the DoSomething Community!
Last week, we asked you to brag about amazing stuff you’re doing, and you did not disappoint. Here are some of our favorite answers from the DoSomething community. (And submit yours here!)
“I have convinced my friends to join me on a project I call "New Friend Friday". The goal is to sit in a new location at lunch, joining someone who is sitting alone!”
- Collin, 18, Texas (which, according to him, is “the best state!”)
“My youth group is preparing for our third reality tour to educate teens on the dangers of drug abuse. Along with that we are starting to advertise in our community to get more youth involved in helping our cause.”
- Abbey, 16, Wisconsin
“I did my senior project for a local teen shelter earned nearly $900, plus tons of donations.”
