Ben here, back with another edition of WYD (What You’re Doing)! If you’re just joining us, WYD is our weekly community newsletter covering what DoSomething members (like you!) are doing to transform your communities. Read on to meet a 16-year-old law student, a fashionable 19-year-old environmentalist, and our writing intern, Jackie. Let’s Do This!
- Ben, Editor-in-chief
Meet Haley, the 16-Year-Old Law Student and Advocate for Accessible Education Like lots of teenagers, Haley Taylor Schlitz loves Fortnite and Black Panther. Unlike most teenagers, she graduated high school at 13, finished college at 16, and is headed off to law school this fall. Her plan after practicing law: Become a professor and start a school.
“Children of color in our education system...don’t have [equal] opportunity,” the DoSomething member says. “[I want to] change the public school system.”
Haley recently took to Twitter to advocate for representation and equality. She tweeted to support DoSomething’s #RedefineBlack campaign, which successfully compelled Dictionary.com to update its definition of “Black.” Join Haley and thousands of DoSomething members telling other dictionaries to update their definitions too.
David and friends wore matching windbreakers and picked up 120 pieces of trash. In other words, sustainability but make it fashion.
