Ben here, back with WYD (What You’re Doing) your Tuesday newsletter about everything DoSomething members are doing to transform their communities. Read on for the 15-year-old who’s got horses in the back, the 17-year-old stocking her local library, and the 12-year-old who convinced the president to make our water crisis a national issue.

Hailey Didn’t Ask for a Horse for Her Birthday -- She Spent Her Birthday Protecting Them “I had no idea what I wanted to do for my 15th birthday,” the DoSomething member said. “I thought it would be great to do some volunteer work.”
So Hailey spent the day cleaning up trash on Shackleford Banks, North Carolina. Hurricane Florence had slammed the island, affecting its herds of wild horses and other wildlife there. (Check the photo: Horses in the back...which would make Lil Nas X proud.)
Ten months later, trash is still strewn across the landscape. But thanks to Hailey, it’s cleaner and safer for humans and animals alike.
Join Hailey and the DoSomething members who have collected 23,732 pieces of trash through our national cleanup campaign, powered by NFL Huddle for 100.
She designed, printed, and posted 60 flyers to remind friends to buckle up. Needless to say, I am floored. (See what I did there???)
Who’s DoSomething dog is cutest in your opinion, Ben? - Daijah, New Jersey
Daijah, UGH. What a cruel, cruel question. How do you expect me to choose one coworker and insult all the rest? More importantly, how do you expect me to do that to their dogs???
But I can’t back down. So let’s see: maybe I go with Daisy, who belongs to Diego. Or Pepper, who lives with Katie? Then again there’s Soraya’s pup, Bowie, not to mention Alanna’s dear Ozzy and Alisha’s Max and Elyssa’s dog, Yoda.
And yet...the choice is clear (and mostly because I’m very biased). My choice is Molly. She lived with us for 15 years, before my parents had to put her down last month. Yes, I was (and am) sad, but I’m happy too. I can’t imagine any dog giving or receiving more love than Molly did. :)
