Hey y’all. I hope you enjoyed some well-deserved relaxation this weekend.
Maybe you’ve heard the news, or maybe you’re hearing it for the first time. Regardless, there’s no easy way to say it: over the weekend we saw more mass shootings, including a deadly one in Texas and another at a football game in Alabama (though thankfully no one was killed there).
First things first: In the wake of seeing violence on the news, take care of yourself and those around you. (If you need immediate support, contact Crisis Text Line by texting HOME to 741-741.)
Out of darkness and tragedy comes hope and love and, above all, action. Donations are rolling in to fundraisers for shooting victims and their families. And the March For Our Lives recently announced its new Peace Plan for a Safer America, following the over 67 new gun control laws youth activists helped pass since the Parkland shooting.
As youth activist David Hogg says, you can #DoSomething too. Congress is back in session. Use our easy tool to email and demand our lawmakers keep our communities safer. Then read on to learn how DoSomething members like you are making our world better every single day, by cancelling bullying, protecting the planet, and more.
Let’s Do This,
Shabnam, 17, Decided to Do Something About Bullying. Not Just for Herself, But for Her Entire School “I am very passionate about putting an end to bullying after being a victim of it for numerous years,” says the DoSomething member, who lives in Kentucky.
Shabnam created a school club called Common Space “that welcomes any student to have a safe and warm environment to discuss how we can combat bullying in our school and create a positive change.”
This back-to-school season, club members posted DoSomething’s positive affirmation tear sheets, which her classmates tear and share to promote positivity and cancel bullying before it starts.
Join Shabnam by printing and posting our tear sheets. You’ll help us spread good vibes nationwide, starting with your school.
