Hey y’all! I’m cool admitting that most of my recent accomplishments have been pretty small. I taught my niece how to shoot a lay-up. I grew this epic beard. I celebrated a birthday...and received this entirely out-of-control collage from Jackie.
DoSomething, meanwhile, is accomplishing *big* things….namely our BRAND. NEW. HOMEPAGE!! It'll make it easier than ever for you to impact your community. And it looks awesome too. Welcome to a bigger and better DoSomething.
Let’s Do This,
The DoSomething Community Is Creating a Nationwide Mental Health Guide That’s For Students, By Students Members have already submitted 40,421 experiences and tips for New State of Mind. COVID-19 is making all that worse. Use these self-care tips to make physical distancing easier. Then join members like Anastasia, who are sharing their experiences and advice for a first-of-its-kind anti-stress guide.
“To break the loop I recommend a plant buddy (or ten). Start with a simple low maintenance plant like a succulent, and while you take care of it take care of yourself,” Anastasia says. “Give it water, give yourself water. Give it sun, give yourself sun. Work your way up to more demanding fruit n’ veggie plants for healthy eating too!”
Maciah contributed six DIY masks to the 9,025 team-themed masks created by DoSomething members...in a single week. From life-saving uniforms to thanking the real MVPs (our essential workers), the DoSomething community is tackling the #oneteam challenge, powered by ESPN, six weeks of sports-themed challenges for COVID-19 relief.
Join the livestream concert to celebrate Cinco De Mayo… and support farmworkers too.
If you could use a self-care call… Sophrosyne Mental Health, started by DoSomething member Emily, wants to schedule a chat.
No choice but to stan DoSomething member Haley… who co-wrote this powerful piece for Teen Vogue.
Go above and beyond for your grandparents… with these eight tips from Jackie.
There’s a completely virtual, totally free summer program… for civic-minded HS students, and you’re invited to apply before May 10!
Great news from Canada… which just banned military grade assault weapons.
ESPN broadcaster Tony Reali went from “Around the Horn” to… around the sink with his fam to support the #oneteam challenge.
Jackie’s fave grandparent TikTok of the week… is this one about some unfortunate glasses shopping incident.
World Without COVID is your chance to Do Something in the fight against COVID-19. This free public health initiative connects volunteers of all ages with clinical trials for vaccines, treatments, and diagnostic testing. You can also join over 800 observational studies from home. One great example: the Mindfulness Study, which is seeking migraine patients to help investigate how mindfulness exercises can impact overall well-being in stressful times.
More Heartwarming Stories From Our Senior Homies Campaign
Check out these additional senior stories swapped! DoSomething Member Hyo, 24 DoSomething Member Grace, 17 “My grandfather is a man of many stories but his story of his short life in North Korea still amazes me,” Hyo says. “To think how different my family would be, had my grandfather’s family not been able to successfully flee North Korea, is incredible to me.”
“He loved talking about the years he travelled. I started to love traveling because of the stories I heard from him,” says Grace. “One of his favorite cities is London and he compared the gloomy rainy days when he had to stay indoors to how the gloomy virus outdoors is forcing him to stay indoors again.”
